Please bare with me as this is still a relatively new project, and I have a ton of ideas for this site. As time goes by I will be adding more advanced features. I hope you enjoy the photos of my travels, and day to day life on Vancouver Island. Cheers, Daryl Quenet, Vancouver Island Photographer.

Salmon and Halibut Fishing in Ucluelet BC - Day 1

August 17, 2007 (0 Comments)

This morning I arrived at my parents house at 5:30am, to start off on our trip up to Ucluelet to go fishing. I've been traveling to Ucluelet almost yearly since I was around 10 years old. Not only is it a tradition, its a lot of fun.

Ucluelet, British Columbia located on Vancouver Island is an international fishing destination. One of the interesting things about spending time fishing in Ucluelet is that 90% of the people you will meet are Americans with money. But I always enjoy meeting new people.

From the point we left Nanaimo things were not looking good for Salmon fishing on the first day. By the time we passed through Cathedral Grove Park, the rain was pelting down. It got worse going over the pass between Port Alberni and Ucluelet. So after arriving all we could do was enjoy the small town.

By late afternoon the white caps in the harbour had died off, and we were able to take the boat out and drop off some crab traps. Luckily we fish in a 23 foot east coast lobster boat, so we decided to head out to Little Beach to catch some Chinook (Spring, Tyee, King, Silver, etc) Salmon. We stayed out for just 2 hours, and I managed to catch a 12 pound Chinook Salmon.

Amphitrite Lighthouse in Ucluelet

The photo above is of Amphitrite Lighthouse, the light house is accessible by road from Ucluelet. Once at the light house there are paths down to the rocks for everyone to enjoy.

Dad boating with kids in Ucluelet

This was one of my favorite photos of the whole trip. Having fished when I was younger with my dad it is always great to see a new generation appreciating the sport.

Luckily this was the worst weather we had during our Ucluelet fishing trip. Check back soon and I'll post entries for the other two days.
