Welcome to Scenic British Columbia, A Vancouver Island Photography Blog
Please bare with me as this is still a relatively new project, and I have a ton of ideas for this site. As time goes by I will be adding more advanced features. I hope you enjoy the photos of my travels, and day to day life on Vancouver Island. Cheers, Daryl Quenet, Vancouver Island Photographer.
Flower or Weed, You Tell Me
June 28, 2007 (5 Comments)
I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me what this is. Overall it has a nice look to it, but its body seems like more that of a weed then flower. The flowers are oddly hairy and nice blue, so I figured they would be the best feature for identification.

I'll update this post when I find out what it is.
2007-07-02: I've updated the photo for with another from today. I'm suspecting more and more this is a weed, as several more have sprouted on my garden path in the gravel.

I just bought a book of herbs with almost the identical photo on its cover; you can find the book at this URL: http://www.jekkasherbfarm.com/details.asp?productid=489&qs=Category%3DBooks. As the previous commenter states, this is an herb (which often grow like weeds) called borage. I believe it is often grown to attract bees to one's garden.Name: s schneider

It makes great liquid fertilizer, soak and use liquid watered down 10:1 or so as a foliar spray.. Throw the sludge in your compost bin or keep adding more rainwater. Use as you do comfrey, very similar. Place all cuttings in your worm and compost bins. -

This is called borage -- it's not a weed, though it self-seeds and may grow all over the place more than you want in your garden. It's a herb with very pretty edible flowers (which you can put in your salad or lemonade -- or to makeice cubes!
