Welcome to Scenic British Columbia, A Vancouver Island Photography Blog
Please bare with me as this is still a relatively new project, and I have a ton of ideas for this site. As time goes by I will be adding more advanced features. I hope you enjoy the photos of my travels, and day to day life on Vancouver Island. Cheers, Daryl Quenet, Vancouver Island Photographer.
Invasion of the Giant Moth
May 02, 2007 (2 Comments)
As I recently wrote we just purchased our first house, and along with that comes many surprises. I was working on cleaning up my garage which was rather overlooked by the last owners during their move out, and I was shocked to fine a monster moth. The moth was like nothing I had seen before, I had heard of bigger moths but not living on Vancouver Island.
I ran into the house to grab both my Camera and a coin to help put the mother into perspective. If anyone knows what kind of moth this is I'd love to hear from you.

This is Smerinthus cerisyi otherwise known as the "Eyed Hawk moth". Reasonably common to much of North America, larva often can be found feeding on Willow.
