Please bare with me as this is still a relatively new project, and I have a ton of ideas for this site. As time goes by I will be adding more advanced features. I hope you enjoy the photos of my travels, and day to day life on Vancouver Island. Cheers, Daryl Quenet, Vancouver Island Photographer.
Halloween Weekend Bonfire with Friends in Saanich
October 27, 2007 (0 Comments)
Twice a year we have a bonfire at my parents. Owning a hobby farm with a 20 tree orchard, and close to 30 grapevine there is a lot of yard refuse to be dealt with. So just before Halloween, and in March we invite friends in for marshmellows, hot chocolate, and hot dogs.
We have never heard that we don't put on a good bonfire. And I've always found it to be a great time to experiment with my camera as the dark of night, is quite the contrast to the brightness of fire. This year proved to be an exception year for photos as I was playing with my Canon 20D, with an ISO level down to 3200 some really interesting photos were produced.

To put things in perspective those flames are around 30 feet high.
I'll put starting to put up the photo galleries in the next 3 weeks. I've put a lot of time into the development of the content management system I'll be using for this.
The Last Rose of Winter, and a Mystery Photo
October 25, 2007 (0 Comments)
I almost always enjoy the time between leaving home, and catching the bus. In the early morning light colours come out softer, and can make for some fantastic shots. Being able to change ISOs on a Digital SLR make it truly shine for this challenge. Below you can see some reflections of frost on the petals of a rose.

Goldstream Provincial Park River

Although there are still a few weeks for the Salmon show up at Goldstream, it still makes for a great place to capture stunning photos at the right time of day. Like most fall, and spring days in Victoria today was overcast. This always makes it a challenge to capture the colours just right. So needless to say I'll be back later, and not just to see the salmon spawn.
Here is one of my favorite photos of the day.

Poisonous Climbing Nightshade Berries
October 13, 2007 (0 Comments)
As a parent of young babies who are partial to eating shiny colourful things poison berries can be any parents nightmare. One of the most common plants to watch out for is the Climbing Nightshade. It's scientific name is Solanum dulcamara, and is commonly called deadly nightshade, climbing nightshade, European bittersweet.
True to their name climbing nightshade will commonly be found growing within hedges, or anywhere it can find perch to climb against.

Photos At The Bus Stop With My New Camera
October 04, 2007 (0 Comments)
Its not everyday I get a new piece of camera kit, in fact its quite rare between having twins, and a mortgage. So when a used camera that was the big brother of mine came available online I snapped it up. So I now have a Canon EOS 20D in my photography arsenal. The Canon EOS 20D can use all four lenses I already had for my Rebel XT which are both EF, and EF-S lenses.
Although a slightly older model then the Rebel XT it far out preforms the XT. I also consider it good practice for when I can one day afford a Canon EOS 40D. Both of these shots were taken around 8:30AM so semi low light. The first is one of the last Roses of Fall.

With this new camera to get me energized to try and update this BLOG a little more often.
